Special Education Courses at
Learning Strategies
Grade 9: Transition to Secondary School
This course is designed
to assist students in acquiring skills that will enable them to make the
transition to secondary school. It emphasizes strategies in the areas of
writing, reading, speaking, and listening skills. Learning Strategies is withdrawal
support for 75 minutes each day for one semester. Specific strategies offered
to the group or individual students are determined by their needs and strengths
and may include:

Preparing for learning
• Assessing your own personal learning styles
• Identifying and defining personal management skills, habits and
characteristics required for success in high schools
• Demonstrating and using an increasing variety of literacy and numeracy skills
• Developing note making skills
• Establishing good test-taking skills
• Demonstrating research skills
Learning Strategies Grade 10-12
These courses are designed to
continue to help pupils build the skills necessary to cope effectively with the
curriculum in all subject areas. Learning Strategies is withdrawal support for
75 minutes each day for one semester. Specific strategies offered to the group
or individual students are determined by their needs and strengths and may
include:

and Organization

• Problem Solving and Conflict Mediation
• Social, Personal and Healthy Development
• Career Planning
